Volunteer
Our volunteers are from all walks of life. They are the life blood of the National Trust. We want you to share our stories to help people connect with our history.
Getting out and meeting new like-minded people and creating new friendships is just one of the great benefits of becoming a volunteer.
Whether you want to volunteer outdoors in the beautiful gardens or inside houses and museums, there are so many amazing places to choose from.


What Volunteers do
More than 650 volunteers support our heritage and conservation sites and projects throughout Queensland.
Volunteers are an integral part of our organisation, contributing tens of thousands of hours each year in a wide variety of roles including:
- Customer Service – providing information and visitor engagement at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, museum and gallery environments
- Support for work teams – working with Wildlife Keepers, Wildlife Hospital staff and Horticulture
- Projects – assisting with education, wildlife or preservation programs and special projects
- Administration and Hospitality Support
- Maintenance and Building works
- Events – assisting and supporting National Trust Queensland events, Great Houses of Ipswich and Open House programs

Our Volunteer Programs
We operate 4 different Volunteer Programs comprising of a wide diversity of volunteer roles and tasks. Consider the program that best matches your interests and abilities. Typically our volunteers assist one day per week for a period of approximately 5 hours, although this will vary per site and per volunteer role.
- Heritage Volunteer Program - located at Heritage Sites throughout Queensland.
- Park Volunteer Program - based at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, Gold Coast
- Wildlife and Horticulture Volunteer Program - based at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, Gold Coast
- Wildlife Hospital Volunteer Program - based at Currumbin Wildlife Hospital, Gold Coast.


Volunteer Values
Our volunteers are from all walks of life but the common factor is they share and respect our four company values of Welcoming, Efficiency, Safety and Fun. We seek active, reliable team players who are eager to learn and contribute to our places and projects. We welcome volunteers aged 18 years and over. Please consider joining one of our volunteer programs if you are person who has:
- A happy, helpful and positive disposition
- A willingness to learn and work within a structured workplace
- Ability to commit to a minimum of 12 months involvement
- An active outlook and general good health
- Great communication skills – able to confidently communicate within a group or team setting in a friendly, professional way
- A passion for culture, conservation, the environment and the heritage of Queensland
